General and digestive system surgery

Excelencia en el ámbito científico y técnico, la innovación en el uso de tecnologías avanzadas que incluye el robot quirúrgico Da Vinci y la atención personalizada a nuestros pacientes.

The General and Digestive System Surgery Service at Olympia Centro Médico Pozuelo is made up of highly experienced and qualified specialists who are committed to scientific and technical excellence.

We work with state-of-the-art technology, including the Da Vinci surgical robot, to offer a comprehensive approach to digestive pathologies using minimally invasive and personalised procedures.

Our goal is to provide patients with comprehensive, innovative care tailored to each clinical situation.

Areas of specialisation

Robotic Surgery

The General Surgery Service uses the Da Vinci robot in highly complex oncological surgeries, such as rectal cancer and tumours of the oesophagogastric and hepatobiliary-pancreatic areas.

Robotic surgery is the technical evolution of laparoscopic surgery, as it uses the same approach, namely small incisions, to insert a camera and surgical instruments that allow us to operate in the least invasive way possible.

Our centre has the Da Vinci Xi surgical robot, which is the most advanced model on the market. This device has been a major advance for our specialty, implementing new tools that are highly necessary for our surgical procedures, such as vascular sealing and mechanical endografts.

Peritoneal carcinomatosis surgery or HIPEC method

The HIPEC (Hyperthermic IntraPeritoneal Chemotherapy) method is a highly advanced oncological surgical treatment used in advanced or metastatic stages of abdominal cancer.

The technique consists of combining cytoreductive tumour removal, which is performed first to remove all areas of the peritoneum in the abdomen affected by cancer, with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. Once the tumour areas have been removed, a dose of chemotherapy at a high temperature, between 41 and 42 degrees, is introduced into the abdomen, achieving a greater anti-tumour effect.

Abdominal wall and inguinal hernia repair surgery

We offer a specialised service in the repair of inguinal hernias using laparoscopy, with a solid reputation both nationally and internationally. We use the Totally Extraperitoneal (TEP) technique, which avoids access to the abdominal cavity, allowing for faster functional recovery, with less post-operative pain and fewer long-term complications.

We also repair umbilical hernias, rectus diastasis, incisional hernias (eventrations) and other abdominal wall defects. In many cases, we use minimally invasive techniques, such as REPA (PreAponeurotic Endoscopic Repair), e-TEP (extended Total ExtraPeritoneal), Rives-Stoppa, IPOM plus (IntraPeritoneal Onlay Mesh with hernia defect closure) and the TAR (Transversus Abdominis Release) technique for large eventrations.

Endocrine and metabolic surgery

Treatment is totally personalised and comprehensive, thanks to close collaboration with the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service. We offer thyroid and parathyroid surgery, laparoscopic adrenal gland surgery, as well as treatment for morbid obesity and metabolic syndrome using minimally invasive techniques. Intraoperative hormonal and histological analyses are performed in all procedures that require such testing.

With regard to obesity surgery, our goal is to reduce associated comorbidities by lowering the Body Mass Index (BMI). We work with a team of surgeons who are experts in laparoscopic surgery, and who perform procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy.

Hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery

We work with a highly trained team in radical oncological surgery to treat malignant diseases of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts. We use the most advanced technology in liver resections, pancreatic surgery, and biliary procedures in order to minimise risks and ensure effective intervention.

We also offer local treatments such as radiofrequency and chemoembolisation, in collaboration with Oncology, Gastroenterology and Radiodiagnostics. After analysing each case in detail, we offer the option of performing the surgery laparoscopically or with robotic assistance. We also treat benign conditions of the biliopancreatic area, such as cholelithiasis using laparoscopic cholecystectomy and cystic liver and pancreatic diseases.

Colorectal surgery, Proctology and pelvic floor surgery

Our unit specialises in the surgical treatment of both benign intestinal conditions (such as diverticulosis or inflammatory bowel disease) and malignant conditions (such as colon and rectal cancer). We have extensive experience in laparoscopic rectal surgery, preserving sphincters and sexual function.

In proctology, we treat anal conditions such as haemorrhoids, perianal fistulas, anal fissures and anorectal infections, with most procedures performed on an outpatient basis.

Pelvic floor disorders are treated using a multidisciplinary approach in conjunction with urology and gynaecology, offering personalised treatment for patients with incontinence, rectal prolapse, rectocele and chronic constipation.

Oesophagogastric surgery

We specialise in the treatment of functional and tumoral disorders of the oesophagus and stomach. This includes common conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernia, and achalasia, as well as complex oncological disorders such as oesophageal and stomach cancer. Our surgeons have extensive experience and work with other hospital departments, using advanced techniques such as laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery, as well as providing comprehensive diagnosis and follow-up care.

Oncoplastic breast surgery and sentinel lymph node biopsy

We offer a comprehensive approach to breast cancer treatment, with options ranging from conservative surgery and sentinel lymph node biopsy to radical surgery combined with oncoplastic techniques, in collaboration with the Plastic Surgery Department. This minimises side effects and improves post-operative quality of life. We also have a unit specialising in the surgical treatment of melanoma and malignant skin tumours, which also performs sentinel lymph node procedures.
