Robotic urological surgery Quirónsalud Torrevieja
In the field of urology, the Da Vinci robot has proven to be highly effective.
Thanks to its sophisticated and innovative technology, the Da Vinci system allows minimally invasive surgeries to be performed with maximum precision and safety.
Some of the most common urological pathologies treated by the Da Vinci robot are:
- Prostate cancer (prostatectomy).
- Kidney cancer (total/partial nephrectomy).
- Bladder cancer (radical cystectomy).
- Urinary incontinence and urogenital prolapse.
The Da Vinci robot allows us to deal with highly complex uro-oncological cases with excellent results.
Dr. Sven Petry, head of Urology at Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital, explains the benefits of Da Vinci surgery in Urology and the most frequent pathologies where this technology is applied.
Quirónsalud Torrevieja has a highly qualified team in robotic surgery with more than 15 years of experience
Advantages of robotic surgery in urology
- More precise removal of tumour tissue, improving the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Greater capacity to preserve neurovascular structures, favouring optimal recovery of sexual function.
- Significant improvements in the preservation and restoration of urinary continence after prostate cancer surgery.
- Improved control of defecatory function.
- Significant reduction in blood loss and the need for transfusions during surgery.
- Reduced risk of surgical wound complications and infections, ensuring a safer recovery.
- Shorter hospital stays.
- Faster recovery and earlier return to normal daily activities, improving quality of life in the short term.
>> Robotic prostate surgery
I. Robotic prostate surgery: how is it performed?
Laparoscopic surgery for prostate cancer, assisted by the Da Vinci robot, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Small incisions are made in the skin (0.5 to 1 cm in length) through which instruments are inserted to carry out the removal of the prostate.
Thanks to the high-definition camera and the high-precision system of the Da Vinci surgical robot, the surgeon can direct the instruments from the outside, thus achieving an optimal level of precision.
Some of the advantages of the Da Vinci robot prostatectomy are:
- Recovery of urinary continence with one-year continence rates of 95% for the da Vinci system and 80% for open surgery.
- Recovery of Erectile Function: Better recovery of erectile function is recorded with robotic prostatectomy, with one-year sexual potency rates of 97% for the da Vinci system and 88% for open surgery.
II. Postoperative period after robotic prostate surgery
No specific care is required after the operation. Recovery is faster than with traditional open surgery. After being discharged from hospital, the patient can return to his or her daily life, always avoiding exertion during the first 4 weeks.
III. How much does robotic prostate surgery cost?
The cost of the procedure will depend on several factors. Each case must be analysed individually.
