Featured treatments
At the nephrology consultation we treat:

Glomerular pathology and systemic and autoimmune diseases
Diseases affecting the kidney can be primary kidney diseases (primary glomerulonephritis) or secondary to systemic diseases. Both require rapid and accurate diagnosis so that treatment can be started early.
The systemic disease that most frequently affects the kidneys is diabetes mellitus. Diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease.
New drugs have been developed in recent years that provide excellent results in these pathologies.

Diagnosis and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
CKD, which is caused by many diseases, is the sustained deterioration of kidney function. This condition has a high incidence rate; it is estimated that one in seven adults will develop CKD during their lifetime, in any of its five stages. The risk of developing it increases with age, with a prevalence of 37% in people over 65. It affects men more than women, at a ratio of 3:1.

High blood pressure (HBP)
High blood pressure is the most common disease and a major cardiovascular risk factor that can cause irreversible damage to the organs targeted by the disease, such as the brain, heart and kidneys.
In turn, renal diseases are mostly associated with HBP, as it is caused by the kidneys in most cases.
At Olympia Pozuelo, we conduct HBP studies to identify the causes and determine the most suitable treatment. We also treat treatment-resistant hypertension (TRH), which causes so many irreversible cardiovascular complications.

Cardiovascular-renal-metabolic syndrome
This is a clinical condition that is on the rise. Cardiac and renal conditions are closely related to metabolic disorders, which progress in parallel.
Renal failure, when present with high blood pressure, is associated with ischaemic heart disease and heart failure. All of these conditions, in turn, are closely linked to obesity, diabetes, and hyperlipidaemia. Comprehensive treatment is essential to slow down the progression of the disease and reduce the high cardiovascular risk it entails. Coordination with cardiology and endocrinology is of great importance for correct diagnosis and treatment.

Genetic diseases. Polycystic kidney disease
Among hereditary diseases affecting the kidneys, adult polycystic kidney disease is the most common. Early diagnosis, combined with early assessment and treatment, are essential to slow its progression.
Both genetic testing and counselling are important for families affected by this disease.

Metabolic study of renal lithiasis
A large proportion of patients suffering from recurrent renal lithiasis have a metabolic disorder that can be identified and treated to prevent the formation of kidney stones.
