With the purpose of heightening the quality of the diagnosis made by the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, the Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital has added a last-generation orthopantomograph that takes high-resolution images and allows for the panoramic viewing of the area, as it scans the upper and lower jaws in full in just one examination.

Doctor Primitivo de la QuintanaEste enlace se abrirá en una ventana nueva, the Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of our Marbella hospital explains "The main beneficiaries of this new equipment are patients, as we offer the most advanced technology to improve our diagnostic abilities. Availing of the best tools also secures the possibility to offer a selection of adequate treatments. The key is the quality of the information obtained before making a clinical decision. The better the information, the better the results will be".

Orthopantomography is an Imaging Diagnosis technique that provides a tridimensional image from the unification of several bidimensional X-rays. It is a high-quality 3D image that captures the full set of teeth and third molars precisely. The photograph obtained of the oral cavity is so accurate that the expert can make a rigorous recreation of the characteristics of the patient. A particularly valuable advantage in a speciality where, in the words of the expert, "details are of the highest value when determining what root canal, implant, oral surgery, orthodontics and airways analyses to apply".

An orthopantomography is a very easy and comfortable test for a patient to undergo. During the test, the patient must stand up in front of the device which rotates around their head and, in only a few seconds, builds an image obtained from the compilation of the data. The procedure is fast, painless and does not have secondary effects.

The new orthopantomograph is part of the technologic equipment installed in the new Imaging Diagnosis unit that was recently opened on the -1 floor of the Singlehome building, at only a few metres from the Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital. This space has also a simple radiography system, two high-range ultrasound systems, a mammograph and soon a last-generation high-field MRI system. The opening of this new infrastructure extends and complements the service portfolio of this hospital and allows to differentiate patient services, as far as the new facilities provide services to outpatients, leaving the exclusive use of the hospital facilities to hospitalised patients (save for the CT scan and general A&E units). The addition of the new equipment helps improve patient circuits, waiting times and patient access to tests.
