Experience
Doctor Villalobos started his residency at Hospital Universitario in Maracaibo with the Maternity Service, before moving to Spain, where he completed a two-year fellowship at the Instituto Valenciano de Infertilidad [Valencia Infertility Institute], and later joined the Gynaecology Service at Hospital de Yecla. He is currently the Head of the Quirónsalud Dexeus Murcia Assisted Reproduction Centre.

Artificial insemination is a simple assisted reproduction technique that consists of depositing sperm inside the uterus to shorten the distance they have to travel to reach the oocyte. It can be performed using semen from the couple or from an anonymous donor.

The law that governs Assisted Reproduction Techniques (law 14/2006 on Assisted Reproduction Techniques) is one of the most lax in Europe. This law allows that in Spain civil status is not taken into account or treatments are allowed until 45 years of age.

What does Spanish legislation say about the donation of eggs or semen?

The donation of eggs or semen are procedures regulated by Spanish legislation since 1988, in such a way as to always guarantee the ethics of the medical and biological processes involved, as well as the health, both of the donors and the embryo resulting from the donation.

The donation of eggs or semen is carried out voluntarily, altruistically and anonymously for patients who need them.

Do I have to go to a specialised facility or do I expect to get pregnant by myself?

If you wish to become pregnant and you have not been able to do so for more than 1 year or 6 months if you are over 35 years of age, you should visit a reproductive medicine specialist.
