1. Skin Cancer (Dermato-oncology)

To diagnose possible skin cancer, the service includes a Melanoma Prevention Unit.

Treatment of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer:

  • Digital dermoscopy for the early diagnosis of melanoma and follow-up of patients with dysplastic naevus syndrome
  • Early diagnosis of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer using manual dermoscopy
  • Surgical excision of skin cancer and other malignant tumours
  • Reconstructive surgical techniques: direct closure, V-Y advancement flaps, local skin flaps, free skin grafts
  • Photodynamic therapy: treatment of skin cancer without surgery
  • Daylight photodynamic therapy
  • Promoting sun-safe habits and skin cancer prevention

2. Paediatric Dermatology

With particular focus on haemangiomas (in collaboration with the Paediatrics department) and congenital melanocytic lesions, as well as other inherited conditions with skin manifestations (such as neurofibromatosis).

3. Genitourinary Medicine (Sexual Health)

Early diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

  • Sample collection for cytological and microbiological testing
  • High-resolution anoscopy, anal cytology and anal HPV testing for anal cancer screening in patients receiving anal intercourse
  • Advice on prevention for the various STIs

4. Palmar and Axillary Hyperhidrosis

  • Assessment of hyperhidrosis using sweat (sudometric) testing
  • Treatment with botulinum toxin

5. General Dermatology

Treatment of eczema, acne, allergies, warts, fungal infections, psoriasis, and blistering and autoimmune skin conditions.

6. Nail Conditions

Infections, injuries, and nail tumours.

7. Hair Loss

Non-scarring hair loss (androgenetic alopecia, female-pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium, etc.) and scarring hair loss (lichen planopilaris, lupus erythematosus, etc.), with biopsy carried out according to protocol where needed.
