The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a restricted-access area providing round-the-clock, comprehensive critical care to patients. The ICU team is led by consultants specialising in Intensive Care Medicine, with extensive experience in supporting and managing patients with complex conditions. They are supported by nurses, healthcare assistants, porters and other professionals who provide continuous care.
Patients admitted to the ICU generally fall into four main groups: serious cardiovascular events, recovery following major surgery, multiple trauma, and complex general medical conditions.
During their stay in the ICU, patients will usually need a range of tests and investigations. The unit is equipped with everything needed to support patients through monitoring, diagnosis and treatment.
Having a family member in the ICU can be a difficult experience, given the uncertainty that often comes with this kind of admission. Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital operates set visiting hours for patients, provided their medical condition allows this.
