Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel receives the 2026 Dravet Award for his contribution to the research and treatment of this disease

Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel, Associate Head of the Neurology Department and Director of the Epilepsy Unit at Hospital Ruber Internacional, took part last weekend in the 2026 Annual Family Meeting organized by the Dravet Syndrome Foundation, where he was honored with one of the 2026 Dravet Awards in recognition of his career and his contribution to the fight against this rare neurological disease.
Dravet syndrome is a severe form of epilepsy of genetic origin that begins in the first year of life and is characterized by frequent seizures that are resistant to treatment, as well as cognitive and behavioral developmental impairments. Its clinical complexity makes a multidisciplinary and highly specialized approach essential.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gil-Nagel has been actively involved in clinical trials of new drugs and targeted therapies aimed at improving seizure control and patients’ quality of life.
As part of the meeting, the specialist also delivered a lecture focused on the behavioral aspects associated with Dravet syndrome, a key dimension of the disease that significantly impacts the daily lives of patients and their families.
During the event, the latest scientific advances, clinical trials, and updates in the treatment of this condition were also shared, along with activities aimed at patients, caregivers, and siblings.
These types of initiatives, which bring together healthcare professionals, researchers, and families, are essential for advancing knowledge of the disease, sharing experiences, and promoting the development of new therapeutic strategies.
The recognition awarded to Dr. Gil-Nagel highlights years of clinical and research dedication in a field where collaboration between specialists and patient associations is essential to continue making progress.
