Hospital Ruber Internacional Launches a New Childbirth Preparation Unit Focused on Comprehensive Family Support
Hospital Ruber Internacional, part of the Quirónsalud Group, will launch next June its new Childbirth Preparation Unit, a service designed to support pregnant women and their families throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period through a comprehensive, close, and multidisciplinary approach. Led by specialized midwives and coordinated with various medical services within the hospital, the initiative aims to provide expectant mothers with reliable information, practical tools, and emotional support so they can experience this stage "in an informed, safe, and calm way," explains Esther Heras Garrido, hospital midwife and one of the project leaders. "We want women to understand what is happening in their bodies and experience the process with peace of mind, reducing the anxiety that the unknown often creates. Our role is to support them and build their confidence," says Heras. The new unit was created in response to a growing demand for continuous support and personalized care during motherhood. According to midwife María Moltó Navarrete, many families feel the need for "an accessible and approachable point of reference" during a stage that represents a profound life change. "The arrival of a baby completely transforms a family’s life. Having a team that listens, guides, and supports makes an enormous difference in how this transition is experienced," she states. Six Sessions Adapted to Each Stage of Pregnancy The program will include six sessions distributed according to gestational age and will address physical, emotional, and practical aspects related to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. Topics will include physical preparation for birth, emotional management throughout the process, breastfeeding, newborn care, and basic tools for responding to potential emergency situations. "Emotional preparation is just as important as physical preparation," emphasizes Iria Rodríguez de la Torre, also a midwife in the unit. "When a woman understands what is happening in her body and feels supported, fear decreases and the process can be experienced with greater serenity." The participation of partners and the wider family environment will be another cornerstone of the program. The unit stresses that emotional support directly influences a woman’s sense of safety and confidence during pregnancy and childbirth. Coordinated Care with Multiple Medical Specialties One of the distinguishing features of this new unit is its integration within the hospital’s own healthcare structure, allowing any needs identified during follow-up care to be addressed quickly and in a personalized manner. "We work in direct contact with gynecology, physiotherapy, psychology, nutrition, and other hospital specialists. This allows us to provide much more coherent and individualized care," says Esther Heras, a member of the midwifery team. The professionals also emphasize that the sessions will be adapted to the reality of each group and will encourage family participation. "We do not believe in closed or rigid classes. Every woman and every family have different needs, and our goal is to adapt to them," the unit explains. "You’re Going to Do Great" The professionals acknowledge that many women come to consultations with concerns related to childbirth, medical interventions, or fear of not knowing how to handle the process correctly. For this reason, one of the program’s central messages will be to reinforce expectant mothers’ confidence. "You’re going to do great. Your body knows, and you are not alone," concludes Esther Heras. "We want women to own their experience and feel they have the tools and support to live this stage with confidence and peace of mind." Patients will be able to request information through the Patient Care service and the hospital’s official communication channels. Quirónsalud: We Care for People The design of this new Unit reflects Quirónsalud’s commitment to humanization as a key element and driving force for change in patient care, promoting comprehensive care that considers people’s medical, emotional, and social needs, through a healthcare model focused on providing more humane, closer, and more efficient medical attention.
