Ruber Internacional Centro Médico Habana promotes obesity prevention through two days of metabolic assessments and personalized health advice
The initiative, carried out in collaboration with Lilly, aims to promote a comprehensive approach to obesity and help eliminate the stigma surrounding this chronic disease.

Ruber Internacional Centro Médico Habana hosted two awareness days on obesity and metabolic health on July 1 and 2, during which nearly one hundred body composition and muscle strength assessments were performed, bringing preventive tools and cardiometabolic risk evaluation closer to the public.
The initiative, organized in collaboration with Lilly as part of the "The Weight of the Invisible" campaign, offered participants a personalized assessment using InBody technology, which measures key health indicators including visceral and subcutaneous fat, muscle mass, basal metabolic rate, and body hydration. Following the evaluation, each participant received an individualized report along with tailored recommendations on healthy lifestyle habits and the prevention of diseases associated with excess weight.
Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease whose assessment now goes far beyond body mass index (BMI). Scientific societies recommend incorporating additional indicators such as body composition and fat distribution to better assess metabolic risk and personalize treatment strategies.
In this regard, Dr. Juan Carlos Percovich, Head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Department at Hospital Ruber Internacional, explains that obesity should be understood as a chronic disease requiring an individualized medical approach. He notes that body composition analysis provides far more valuable information than weight or BMI alone, as it enables clinicians to identify metabolic risks at an early stage and establish preventive strategies tailored to each patient. According to Dr. Percovich, initiatives such as these bring valuable health assessment tools closer to the public, helping people take care of their health before complications arise.
During the event, healthcare professionals also highlighted the importance of preserving muscle mass, particularly after the age of 50, when it can decline by 1% to 2% per year. This process directly affects metabolism, mobility, and overall quality of life. Assessing these parameters allows for the early detection of potential abnormalities and supports more effective preventive interventions.
Through these awareness days, Ruber Internacional Centro Médico Habana sought to make metabolic health assessment tools more accessible to the public, encouraging the early identification of cardiometabolic risk factors and raising awareness of obesity as a chronic disease that requires a comprehensive, multidisciplinary medical approach.
