Specialists highlight the health issues that most concern women
Menstruation, contraception and menopause are the issues that most concern Spanish women according to the conclusions obtained from the report of the Women's Welfare Report, recently conducted by Kantar Millward Brown.
Another of the aspects highlighted by the study is the use of condoms as the contraceptive method, according to Dr. Tanit Corbacho, head of the Gynecology Service of the Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja, "among the most used contraceptive methods among the youngest are condoms, even above the average of other countries. However, the use of the contraceptive pill is usually used by older women, although in this case, its acceptance is below the European average. " Also, it is surprising that a third of women do not use any type of contraceptive. "In the consultation, one of the most frequent doubts is usually if the pill is getting fat or if it is going to have side effects. The new versions of pills have few side effects and are very effective at the same time helping to regulate menstrual periods.
Once the score is over, Dr. Katy de Paco, gynecologist and obstetrician at Hospital Quirónsalud Murcia, highlights as the most frequent reasons for gynecological visits vulvovaginal infections, uterine fibroids, alterations of the rule, endometriosis and abdominal discomfort that affect the ovaries or to the uterus. Regarding myomas, its high incidence should be noted, since seven out of ten women will develop this type of tumors throughout their lives. "This type of benign tumor," explains Dr. Katy de Paco, "when he is small, he usually does not present any symptoms and usually does not need specific medical control. Only in symptomatic cases, that is, that they present abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain and abdominal pressure, is a follow-up necessary to guide the treatment, which may be hormonal to help reduce its size or through endoscopic surgery. "
In relation to menopause, the rejection of hormone replacement therapy by the patient when it comes to alleviating symptoms such as hot flashes, anxiety, weight gain or sleep disorder is very low, although her recommendation is not very widespread among specialists. Dr. Corbacho recommends the use of this type of therapy until at least 50 years if menopause is established before this age, as well as local treatment with ovules, creams or gels containing estrogen.
