Greater precision and safety for patients thanks to new technology in Nuclear Medicine at Ruber Internacional Hospital

The Nuclear Medicine Department at Ruber Internacional Hospital has taken a qualitative leap forward with the addition of two state-of-the-art devices that enhance diagnostic capabilities and patient safety: a new SPECT-CT gamma camera and a digital PET-CT scanner with time-of-flight and oncofreeze technology.
The SPECT-CT will enable anatomical and functional studies to be carried out in the most conventional nuclear medicine tests, achieving a much more precise delimitation of different lesions and pathologies. Dr José Francisco Boán, head of Nuclear Medicine at the hospital, emphasises: ‘The combination of anatomical and molecular imaging significantly increases diagnostic performance, providing specialists with more information and patients with greater safety in the treatment of their disease.’
For its part, digital PET-CT will provide greater spatial resolution, reducing artefacts caused by respiratory movements and improving the quality of studies. Thanks to its high sensitivity, studies can be performed in less time (10 minutes compared to the conventional 20 minutes) and with a lower dose of radiopharmaceutical.
‘We are talking about an advance in comfort, radiation protection and safety for patients, without sacrificing maximum diagnostic accuracy,’ says Dr. Boán.
Thanks to these additions, the Nuclear Medicine Service at Ruber Internacional Hospital reinforces its position as a leader in diagnostic imaging, offering patients faster, safer and more accurate scans, with a direct impact on the quality of care and the confidence of specialists.
