Breast Cancer
The most common type of tumor among women in our country.
Breast cancer, also known as cancer of the breast, is a disease that originates when cells that are part of the mammary gland begin to reproduce uncontrollably, significantly increase in number, and form clusters or masses of cells called tumors.
These tumors can continue to grow, spread, and invade nearby tissues or even travel through blood vessels and the lymphatic system to other parts of the body (metastasis), where they can settle and continue growing in those tissues.
There are many types of breast cancer, depending on which breast cells become cancerous. These types of cancer can be described in different ways. Your specialist doctor will provide you, during your consultation, with all the information about your specific case and help you understand the type of cancer you have, its prognosis, and guide you regarding the available treatment options.
The Mammary Gland or Breast
The female breast is made up of connective tissue, fat, and breast tissue that contains the glands responsible for producing breast milk. Breast tissue consists of 15–20 lobes, from which the milk ducts extend and converge into the lactiferous sinus, which connects to the outside of the breast through the nipple. This is the pathway through which breast milk is released.
