Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella hosted a blood donation drive this Thursday in collaboration with the Málaga Blood Transfusion, Tissue and Cell Centre, with the aim of helping to maintain the blood supplies needed for patient care and raising awareness of the importance of donation as an essential act of solidarity within the healthcare system.
The blood donation drive took place throughout the morning, from 10.00am to 2.00pm, next to the hospital’s Emergency Department entrance, where a mobile unit from the Blood Transfusion Centre was stationed. The initiative resulted in almost thirty blood donations.
Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella highlights the importance of regularly promoting initiatives of this kind, as blood donations are essential for treating patients who require transfusions as a result of surgical procedures, accidents, illnesses or certain clinical conditions.
Blood cannot be manufactured, and its components have a limited shelf life. Maintaining adequate supplies therefore requires regular donations. For this reason, blood donation campaigns play a key role in ensuring that healthcare centres have the blood components they need when patients require them.

Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella reminds people who meet the requirements for donating blood of the importance of taking part in these campaigns regularly. In general, people aged between 18 and 65 who are in good overall health and weigh more than 50 kg can donate, although each donor is assessed beforehand to ensure that donation is appropriate for them.
The blood donation drive held at the hospital forms part of the collaboration with the Málaga Blood Transfusion, Tissue and Cell Centre, which regularly organises campaigns to facilitate blood donation and help ensure the supply of blood to healthcare centres across the province.
